August is here and that means that it’s time to prepare to head back to school! No matter how kids are going back to school this year, there are tons of resources for outdoor learning opportunities that you can incorporate throughout the school year. For some inspiration, the Nature Bridges team is highlighting some incredible nature centers that provide opportunities to interact with and learn from nature. Whether the kids are heading back to school in person or online, take time to get outdoors and learn this year!
Neabsco Creek Boardwalk – Woodbridge, VA
Located in Virginia, Neabsco Creek Boardwalk gives visitors access to the wetlands of Neabsco Creek. Learn about how tall grasses and marshes filter pollution from the river and the wildlife that habitat wetlands at educational sites throughout the boardwalk.
Alabama Nature Center – Millbrook, AL
The Alabama Nature Center is an outdoor educational facility that offers hands-on, outdoor-based educational programs for everyone! Enjoy the beautiful boardwalk and explore forests, fields, streams, wetlands, and ponds while learning about a variety of ecosystems in a self-guided environment.
Rookery Bay – Naples, FL
Managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Rookery Bay stretches from Naples to the western Everglades. Here you can get access to hands-on learning experiences for all ages, including nature trails, interactive exhibits, and more!
It’s the perfect time to get back to nature and enjoy all of the opportunities that the great outdoors has to offer! Make sure to check local and location-specific guidelines for learning safely in nature. We hope these recommendations for outdoor learning experiences inspire you to find new places to learn this school year!
